Industry Scholarships
The Michigan Vegetable Council and the Michigan State Horticultural Society, with the help of generous industry sponsors, provide scholarships each year to students pursuing careers in or connected to the fruit and vegetable industries in the Midwest. Undergraduate and graduate students at Michigan State University and other midwestern universities are eligible to apply (undergraduates must have attained at least sophomore status). The target amount of each scholarship is $2,000, but it could be more or less, at the discretion of the selection committee. These are awarded annually.
In 2018, industry scholarship awards totaled $19,500. These sponsors, in addition to the Michigan Vegetable Council and the Michigan State Horticultural Society, provided the funding for the industry scholarships:

Jordan Tatter Scholarship
This is an endowed scholarship fund that honors the memory of Jordan Tatter. Throughout his lifetime, Jordan Tatter was dedicated to the betterment of Michigan agriculture, particularly its fruit and vegetable industries. He was a highly respected leader within the agricultural community and beyond. The Michigan Vegetable Council and Michigan State Horticultural Society, with the support of the Tatter family and many agricultural industry leaders, initiated this fund in 2003. The first scholarship award from the fund was made in 2004.
The Jordan Tatter Scholarship in Horticulture is awarded to students at Michigan State University pursuing a career in or working with the fruit and vegetable industries. Undergraduate students having completed at least two years of studies and graduate students are eligible for consideration. Scholarship applicants will be evaluated on academic achievements, demonstrated leadership abilities, and career aspirations. The Department of Horticulture at Michigan State University selects the Jordan Tatter Scholarship recipients.
In recent years, one undergraduate student and one graduate student have been selected to each receive a $2,500 scholarship award.
